May 2008
- On Saturday, Hector Echemendia (Class of 2007) and his college team, Southeastern University, won the Christian College World Series. The best part of the story is that Echie, himself, hit the game winning (Championship-winning) hit for the win. How about that ? He called Coach Benitez right after the game and thanked him for giving him the opportunity. He told him that he was already a champion, because he is a LASALLE ROYAL LION. He whole heart ably agreed with him. "Tell LaSalle that my hit was for them."

This is very rare occasion of a powerful Division I baseball Conference naming a freshman player for this particular award. Victor is currently the 5th leading hitter in Conference USA. Also, Hector Echemendia (Class of '07) went 2 for 3, including a Home Run, in the Championship game for the South Region. Echie's team, Southeastern University Fire, is now in the College World Series.

- The Miami-Dade Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), the agency responsible for transportation planning in Miami-Dade County, in conjunction with the Government Information Center (GIC) hosted its 5th Annual Public Service announcement (PSA) Contest where three student producers are deemed winners.
This year’s contest focused on promoting “Pedestrian Safety” and there were almost 50 applicants from various Miami-Dade County High Schools and Colleges. Last year Miami Senior High School students staked their claim in the 4th Annual PSA contest with two winners. This year Immaculata-La Salle High School flipped the script with two students placing in the top three: Samuel Gervais, a sophomore, and Melissa Grafton, a sophomore.  The third winning PSA was submitted by Jose Rodriguez, a senior from Miami Senior High School.  These students will be honored during a special ceremony prior to the MPO Governing Board meeting and their videos will be aired for one month each on Miami-Dade TV beginning this month.

For additional information regarding this Ceremony, please call the MPO at (305) 375-4507 or visit our website at www.miamidade.gov/mpo.
